There are literally hundreds of different types of phobias but here are some of the most common ones:


  • Arachnophobia (fear of spiders)
  • Sociaphobia (fear of being judged negatively in social situations)
  • Agoraphobia (fear of open/public spaces and being away from home)
  • Claustrophobia (fear of being enclosed and having no escape)
  • Acrophobia (fear of heights)
  • Aviophobia (fear of flying)


What is a Phobia?


A phobia is an irrational fear of an object or situation can often seriously interfere with you enjoying living a normal life. People with irrational fears or phobias usually end up seriously restricting their life by doing the best they can to totally avoid those things and situations for which they have a fear.


As most irrational fears or phobias are highly irrational from the conscious point of view, it is clear that they are manifested from beliefs and attitudes in the subconscious of the individual. Fortunately, hypnosis has the ability to access these beliefs and attitudes and change them permanently. Hypnosis, because of its power to make these changes, is the best way to alleviate and eliminate irrational fears.

Is Fear Ever Useful?


Fear can have important survival value for an individual. It can make people more careful and cautious, and influence them to organize to be better prepared for difficult or dangerous circumstances. However, if a fear becomes irrationally intense and interferes with a person’s normal life, then intervention is called for. Something, which is a concern, can become very disruptive to someone’s life if it becomes a strong fear that is disturbing and begins effecting normal behavior. When it is frequently triggered by irrational reactions and begins to seriously disrupt the your life, then, of course, change is needed. Hypnosis can be especially helpful because these reactions are often uncontrollable as they are frequently created by ideas and thoughts that remain out of awareness in the unconscious mind.


How are Fears & Phobias created?


Debilitating fears and phobias are based on unconscious beliefs and patterns that were usually formed at an early age in life, usually in childhood, when our brains are not fully developed. This process is called premature evaluation, where our brain forms a belief about a thing, situation, or object, with insufficient resources and information to make an accurate assessment – i.e. Spiders = Danger. These beliefs then get stored unconsciously and direct our behaviour into adulthood. Hence the reason why a fully mature adult can ‘intellectually know’ that (most) spiders are harmless, yet still run screaming from the room (to perceived safety) at the sight of one.


Eliminating Fears & Phobias with Hypnosis


Fortunately, hypnosis can uncover this event and create a process that quickly desensitizes you so that you experience less fear, and become more resourceful when faced with it. You will end up having more courage, confidence and calmness when encountering the original feared object or situation. In cases where no event is discovered and uncovered, hypnosis can directly enable you to associate different, more positive feelings in those formerly fearful situations. Most irrational fears can be treated with just a few sessions. In some cases a single session may be all that is required.
